Private by design, honest about limits

Private Temporary Messaging and Ephemeral Chat App Without Phone Numbers

Silent Key is a browser-based messaging app for people who want a simple identity layer, temporary message retention and direct controls for blocking and reporting. Sign in with Google, choose a nickname, receive an SK-ID and share that identifier only with people you trust.

Core design

Private Chat App & Ephemeral Messaging Service

Privacy claims become useless when they are vague. Silent Key explains what is hidden from other users, what the service stores and where moderation still applies.

🪪

SK-ID discovery

Other users search for your SK-ID rather than browsing a public directory of phone numbers. Your Google email is used for authentication and account administration, not as the public chat identifier.

⏳

Temporary messages

New messages receive a seven-day expiry timestamp. Expired messages are hidden defensively in the interface and can be deleted from Firestore through the maintenance process.

🛡️

User controls

Participants can block unwanted one-to-one communication, report messages or users, and remove conversations from their own list without pretending the server never held the data.

No theatrical security language

What “private” means here

Private from ordinary user discovery

Silent Key does not require users to expose a phone number to begin a chat. A nickname and SK-ID are the visible identity elements used inside the service. A person still needs your SK-ID, or an existing connection, to find you.

This is an identity and discoverability choice. It is not a promise that every piece of account data is invisible to the service operator.

Moderated, not end-to-end encrypted

Messages are stored in Firestore and authorized administrators may review reports, suspend accounts, block users, remove individual messages or clear messages while preserving a conversation connection. Because the service can perform these actions, Silent Key must not be described as end-to-end encrypted.

Use a dedicated audited encrypted messenger when end-to-end confidentiality is required.

Temporary does not mean instantly erased. Message expiry and cleanup are separate events. A message may stop appearing after its expiry time before server cleanup removes it. Recipients may also copy, photograph or otherwise preserve content before deletion.
Before opening the app

Know the workflow

Authenticate with Google

Google Sign-In verifies the account. Silent Key does not create or store a separate password.

Choose a nickname and create your profile

Choose a nickname between three and twenty-five characters. The app generates a unique SK-ID and stores the profile in Firestore.

Share the SK-ID carefully

An SK-ID lets another user search for you. Treat it like a contact identifier, not like a secret authentication key.

Use controls when needed

Block unwanted contacts, report abuse and avoid sharing sensitive material that would cause harm if copied.

Ready to use Silent Key? The private application is separated from this public information site. Ads are not loaded on sign-in, setup, chat, settings, profile or admin routes. Open the app.
Suitable uses

Designed for ordinary conversations, not impossible promises

Reasonable use cases

Silent Key can suit small groups, classmates, friends or project contacts who want browser-based chat without making a phone number the visible contact field. It is useful when temporary history, simple user discovery and moderation are more important than permanent archives or advanced media features.

When to choose another service

Choose a different tool for emergency communication, regulated records, medical or financial secrets, legal evidence, guaranteed delivery, long-term business archives or conversations requiring audited end-to-end encryption. Matching the tool to the risk is more useful than decorating every app with a lock icon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Private & Temporary Messaging

Learn how Silent Key protects your identity with anonymous SK-IDs, auto-expiring messages, and zero phone number requirements.

How does temporary messaging work on Silent Key?

Every message created on Silent Key receives a 7-day expiration timestamp. Messages automatically expire and are defensively hidden from the interface once seen or when their retention window elapses, preventing permanent conversation archives from lingering on devices.

Do I need to share my phone number to chat?

No. Silent Key completely eliminates phone number discovery. You connect with others using an anonymous, pseudonymous SK-ID (like SK-ABC123) or a direct invite link, ensuring your personal phone number remains private.

Is my Google email visible to other chat participants?

No. Google Sign-In is utilized solely for secure spam-free authentication. Your email is never exposed to other users; they only see your chosen nickname and SK-ID.

Can I install Silent Key on my mobile phone?

Yes. Silent Key is an installable Progressive Web App (PWA) with offline capabilities. On Android, tap "Add to Home screen" in Chrome; on iOS, tap the Share icon and select "Add to Home Screen" in Safari.

How do I choose a nickname and start chatting?

Simply sign in with Google, choose a nickname between 3 and 25 characters, and your unique SK-ID will be generated. You can share your SK-ID with friends to begin private temporary chats immediately.

How does Silent Key differ from WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal?

Mainstream messaging apps tie your account to a SIM card phone number and default to permanent cloud backups. Silent Key is designed specifically for ephemeral, burner, and short-term conversations with zero phone number exposure and automatic expiration.
